IELTS SPEAKING TEST - SKILLS

The IELTS Speaking Module is designed to allow you to demonstrate your oral skills in a variety of situations. These situations are similar to those you may meet at university in an English-speaking environment where you will be expected to speak in front of your colleagues in tutorials and to discuss issues relevant to your area of study, both with your lecturers and with other students.

IELTS LISTENING TEST - LISTENING OVERVIEW AND TIPS

1. Listening Overview

The IELTS listening test is the same for both those taking the Academic and General Training papers.

It consists of 40 questions (10 per section) and lasts around 30 minutes. You will have 10 minutes at the end to transfer your answers from the question paper to the answer sheet.

You will be given a short amount of time (approximately 30 seconds) between each section and you should use this time to look at the questions coming up. You will hear the recordings only once.

I was teaching a student recently who needed 7.5 in order to move to Canada and become a nurse. She was very good at writing, speaking and reading, but always failed to get the score she needed in listening. I was really surprised because she was one of the most focused and hard working students I have ever met. I was determined to find out what her problem was and fix it. After talking about the problem for only a minute, it was obvious what she was doing wrong.
